Description Bedford-Corners. Settlement commenced in 1662. It was a simple, forest-environment cluster of ancient, low-browed Dutch houses. Bedford-Corners was especially the seat of the Lefferts family. From here the Cripplebush Road ran north-easterly to Newtown. The Clove Road southerly through the clove or cleft in the hills. The Brooklyn and Jamaica road or King's [?] Highway ran easterly. [handwritten on page]
